Bosnian singer-songwriter Damir Imamović, with his trio, shares the narrative power, the gorgeous melancholy, and the yearning inherent in sevdah music. Sometimes called “Bosnian blues” or sevdalinka, the music reflects Bosnia’s rich cultural history: Roma, Slavic, and Sephardic Jewish influences meld with sounds from across the Ottoman Empire. Imamović, a Sarajevo-born artist with deep family roots in Balkan music, preserves folk tradition while creating music that’s evolving and vibrantly alive.
“A brilliant and charismatic performer and a tireless innovator who continues to find original ways to connect sevdah’s rich past with an expanding and invigorated future. ”
Joe Boyd Producer
