Experience the Pavel Haas Quartet, one of BBC Music Magazine's top 10 string quartets of all time, in a stunning all-Czech program. In Pavel Haas's third and final quartet, shadows gather as war approaches. Leoš Janáček's First Quartet, inspired by Leo Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata, pulses with urgency and emotional intensity. The evening concludes with the openhearted warmth of Antonín Dvořák's "American" Quartet, composed among Czech immigrants in Iowa and shaped by the spirituals and folk traditions he encountered there.

“Their account of the "American" Quartet belongs alongside the greatest performances on disc. ”
